Mark Benzey

Cue sports have been a central part of my life for over 30 years, competing in both pool and snooker. I’ve represented Hampshire pool for more than two decades (on and off), earned England honours at Men’s and Seniors level for nine years, and currently captain the Seniors team. I take pride in building strong teams, fostering unity, and driving high standards both on and off the table.

I picked up a snooker cue at 17 and by 25 became Winchester & Southampton Singles Champion. Over time, I’ve become one of the most decorated players in Southampton League history, with a singles title, three doubles titles (achieved with three different partners—matched by only two others in 120 years), five cup wins, and 14 league titles across multiple teams.

I transitioned into pool in my late twenties with the Hammers in Basingstoke and was quickly selected for county level. Since then, my achievements have included Hampshire Men’s C National Champion, multiple Basingstoke Seniors Singles (x2) and Doubles titles (x3), Scotch and Mixed Doubles wins, EBPF National Seniors runner-up, and deep runs in major events such as the Golden 8 Ball (500 players). I’ve also enjoyed sustained team success, including over 10 Winchester League titles and multiple knockout victories.

As a captain, every Hampshire Men’s A or Seniors side I’ve led has reached the national finals—something I’m particularly proud of. I believe leadership is about supporting and guiding players, building resilience, and keeping the team united—because success in cue sports is always collective.

Alongside playing, I’ve worked closely with Kirsty to help develop and grow the county game over the years. Everything I’ve achieved has been driven by passion, commitment, and a genuine love for cue sports—and when I finally put my cue away, I’ll do so knowing I gave everything and made the most of my ability.
